Nashoba Neighbors Volunteers are invited to join in a Zoom book chat on Tuesday evening, November 17 at 7pm to explore the ideas in Being Mortal: Medicine and What Matters in the End, by Atul Gawande.
Atul Gawande's bestselling book from 2014 has shifted cultural and medical perspectives on end-of-life care. It has received numerous literary awards and best-book selections, and inspired an Emmy-nominated television documentary adaptation. Dr. Gawande is a surgeon at Brigham and Women's Hospital in Boston, Massachusetts, a professor of surgery at Harvard Medical School, a professor at Harvard's T.H. Chan School of Public Health, and a public health leader.
Nashoba Neighbors' volunteers are invited to read (or re-read) the book or to watch any of the videos of Atul Gawande speaking about his experiences, observations, and perspective on end-of-life care in the United States. There is a great deal to explore in his writing so we will only scratch the surface, but we are open to hosting a follow-up session if our volunteers would like to delve into his ideas further!
You can borrow the physical book, e-book, or audible book from your local library, or if your time is limited (or you want more!), you may want to view one of the following videos:

This book chat is being hosted and facilitated by Nashoba Neighbors Member and Volunteer Coordinators Kathy Foell and Deb D'Eramo. Come join us for what is sure to be an interesting discussion and sharing of experiences and resources.
